You Can Save Animals From Deadly Product Tests!
Right now, sensitive animals are being force-fed chemicals and forced to inhale potentially toxic materials in tests of household products that are on the shelves of stores across Australia. PETA is hoping that YOU will help save rabbits, mice, guinea pigs and other animals from suffering in cruel and archaic tests for dishwasher detergents, floor cleaners and other common products.
Animals who are used in tests of household products or their ingredients are poisoned in crude toxicity studies, in which large amounts of chemicals are pumped directly into their stomachs via a force-feeding tube or syringe. These tests inflict hideous suffering on the animals, who may experience severe abdominal pain, diarrhoea, convulsions, seizures, paralysis and/or bleeding from the nose, mouth or genitals before they ultimately die.
That such tests are permitted to continue is even more outrageous since cruelty-free companies exist. You can visit the PETA US website to access a list of companies that have provided written assurance that neither they nor their ingredient suppliers conduct, commission or pay for any tests on animals for ingredients, formulations or finished products.
PETA Australia is a member of the PETA International Science Consortium, Ltd, an organisation that coordinates and applies PETA’s and our international affiliates’ scientific expertise to end the use of animals in all experiments. Members of the Science Consortium have already persuaded government agencies to accept data from non-animal tests and persuaded companies to use them.
Terrific progress has been made against the use of animals in laboratories, but some government, corporate and university officials continue to defend animal tests that have never even been proved to provide results applicable to humans. Of course, animals are complex beings who can experience pain, sadness, pleasure and joy. They are not laboratory tools.
Yet many consumers still don’t know how their choices affect animals in laboratories and other cruel places. Please take action against the painful killing of animals in tests by always purchasing cruelty-free products, and by donating to help PETA stop the use of animals for product tests.
