HUGE News: Alexandra Australia Is Banning Fur!
When PETA supporters band together to make demands, change happens. After hearing from more than 10,000 activists about how cruel and outdated the use of fur is, Melbourne fashion label Alexandra Australia finally agreed to say farewell to fur!
Fur Is Dead
Animals on fur farms spend their entire lives confined to cramped, filthy wire cages. Fur farmers use the cheapest and cruellest killing methods available, including suffocation, electrocution, gassing, and poisoning.
This commitment from Alexandra Australia not only will spare racoons, rabbits, and foxes this horrible fate but also is one more nail in the coffin of the global fur industry.
Almost every major fashion house – including Gucci, Oscar de la Renta, Versace, and Chanel – has given fur the flick. In addition, fur farming has been banned in 19 European countries, including Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, the Netherlands, and the UK, and the sale of fur products recently became illegal in the US state of California.
What’s Next?
Today, fur is as dead as the animals it was stolen from and designers around the globe are embracing sustainable, innovative vegan fabrics. But there are many more ways animals still need our help. Our next goal is to stop the exploitation of badgers in the brush industry.
Much like animals exploited for fur coats, shawls, and trim, badgers are kept in tiny cages and killed in excruciating ways so that their beautiful coats can be turned into brushes used for make-up, grooming, and even art supplies. Please join us in urging Australian retailer Shaver Shop to end its use of badger hair for brushes immediately.
