Almost 7,000 PETA Supporters Object to Manilla Chicken Farm Expansion
Plans have been submitted to expand an intensive chicken farm in Manilla, near Tamworth, in New South Wales. If approved, an additional 776,000 birds will be crammed into another 16 sheds – doubling the size of the existing facility.
Chickens raised on factory farms in Australia are bred to grow so large so quickly that their legs and organs can’t keep up, often causing heart attacks, organ failure, and leg deformities. Then, when they’re just 8 weeks old, they’re hauled to the slaughterhouse, where they are electrocuted and their throats are slit, sometimes while they are still conscious.
6,915 PETA supporters have written to the council, calling on it to object to this horrific proposal.
The planning application closed to submissions on 4 March 2021.
