Australia’s First Vegan Pub Set to Open in Sydney
It’s no secret that Aussies love pub grub.
Soon, compassionate eaters in Sydney will be able to enjoy burgers, hand-cut fries, “fish” and chips, “bangers” and mash, and a whole host of other pub classics at The Green Lion – the nation’s first all-vegan pub bistro.
As the vegan culinary movement explodes in Sydney – with a vegan fish and chip shop, sushi café, gelateria, pizzeria, and burger joint already thriving in the city – it’s no surprise that the traditional Aussie pub is anticipated to be the next frontier of plant-based food venues.
The new pub is located above Rozelle landmark The Red Lion and is sure to entice visitors to venture upstairs and discover compassionate and environmentally friendly alternatives to standard pub fare, including vegan wine and beer.
“The Green Lion mission is to honour humans, animals and our planet by providing tasty and wholesome plant based food in a comforting, inspiring and inclusive pub environment”, says co-founder Bhavani Baumann. “We are opening the Green Lion with the belief that great and tasty comfort food can be made without animal products and will be creating plant based food that will appeal to everyone.”
Co-founder Sacha Joannou adds that they “want to challenge the idea of what a beer and burger can be and break the stagnant and outdated mould of the Aussie pub bistro”.
This exciting new eatery is set to open with a bang on September 17 with a free launch party. Find out more here.
