Ultra-Fine Is Ultra-Cruel
Most Australians probably don’t know about the miserable lives of sheep who are used in the production of ultra-fine wool. But in this new action alert on the PETA Asia-Pacific website, not only can you read about the horrors of this little-known industry, you can also see them for yourself in a heartbreaking video:
Most sheep used for ultra-fine wool spend virtually their entire lives in tiny, barren enclosures, with no chance to engage in their natural behaviour or live as part of a flock. They are forced to wear coats even in hot weather so that their fleece does not get dirty, and they are kept constantly hungry because some people think that sheep with lower bodyweights produce finer wool.
Imagine if this were the life that you were giving your dog or other companion animal – spending day after day locked in a small, barren room without enough food and with nothing to do. Imagine if this were your life.
There is simply no excuse for Australia to continue this cruel method of wool production, which is opposed by numerous animal welfare groups, including the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Please pledge not to support this unnecessary industry and ask your family and friends to do the same.
